WoW TCG

Just a quick post; I've been looking into the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game.

One reason that it's appealing is the same reason that I like Duel Masters, it has a resource system that lets you use any card as a resource, as opposed to limiting you to Lands or Energy.

I just read the first 57 pages of the 77-page rulebook, and also some of the other stuff on loops and keywords. So far, it seems interesting.

I mean, there are some pretty humorous card effects.

Thundering Footsteps, 8, Ability
As an additional cost to play, stomp your feet.
Put a 10 [Melee] / 10 [Health] Mechanical ally token named Fel Reaver into play.

Not to mention this keyword:

AWESOME: At the start of your turn, each player may compliment this card. If he does, he draws a card.

Yeah, these types of things make me want to play the card game. I'm going to look into the cost of playing and if any nearby card shops hold tournament for it. If any of you have played, or know something about the game, I'd appreciate input or advice.

  1. Play Magic Grunty. Really. I've played Yugioh for about 2 years and Magic for about a month, and I'm loving Magic more and more. So many cool formats, such variety in decks, and it's a card game that's made to just be a card game. Nothing like Yugioh (Anime) or WoW (MMO), all their effort goes to making the game great, and it is.

Try a draft with some friends one week. The Magic community is very welcoming and I've gotten a lot of help, despite being a noob.

I've played a little Magic, and there's two things that I just don't like about the game.

The first is the resource system: it's based on drawing a good amount of lands throughout the game. I don't want such a huge amount of luck controlling the game. I know there's a mulligan, but you lose a card when you do that. And you can't do much if you keep drawing a bunch of lands/non-lands in a row.

The second is the financial issue. The fact that Magic has set rotations and the fact that Mythics (or whatever they're called) cost a mess load of money prevent someone from playing competitively without investing a bunch of money into the game constantly. At least in Yu-Gi-Oh, if you know what you're doing, you can keep playing the same deck through various formats.

I don't know if the WoW TCG has set rotations, but I heard that the cards are relatively inexpensive and the prizes are amazing (iPads given as prizes for the equivalent of a Regional Top 8, that's crazy!). I'm still looking into the game, but so far, nothing is making me hate it.

I understand what you're saying about the Magic community, but that won't do much if I don't want to play the game. And, the tournament organizers for the EXVC Sneak Preview that I attended play the WoW TCG, so I'd be able to pick up stuff from them.

I'm still looking into it, so it's not like I've made a decision.

Yeah, I have friends who play Magic. They don't even buy cards anymore; they just play online since it costs too much to buy cards.

    @mike

There's no way that I would leave Yu-Gi-Oh behind. I plan on playing until the game ends, which hopefully won't happen anytime soon.

  6. I'm also interested in playing WoW for a change of scenery. I usually go to Frank and Sons and see some WoW TCG vendors there, and they seem to host tournaments in Costa Mesa on a weekly basis as well. I'm usually at Franks playing with various decks, trying out the Meklord Emperor Grannel Deck this saturday instead of going to regionals.
