Regionals Report 1/29/11

I went to Regionals today with my Scrap Worm deck. I met with vadangchoinga, Riku, and one of Riku's friends.

I decided to trade my Pot of Duality for two Solemn Warnings, which is exactly what happened. So, I was already really happy with that. I was also able to pick up a play-set of Gold Rare Don Zaloogs, which I needed for a new deck.

Unfortunately, the tournament didn't turn out so well...

Round 1: vs Dragons (?) - OXX
-This guy was running part Hopeless Dragons, part Rock Stun. It was weird, but apparently it was effective. I feel that I could have won if he didn't draw Future Fusion in games two and three, though. It is an idea, though, using Future Fusion to basically plus-3 off of three Red-Eyes Wyverns and a Red-Eyes Metal Darkness Dragon.

Round 2: vs Spellcasters - OO
-I destroyed my Solemn Warnings for Scrap Dragon's effect. They weren't exactly helpful.

Round 3: vs Machina Gadgets - OXX
-He used two Solemn Warnings, Royal Oppression (once, I chained MST), and Solemn Judgment in the first duel. He dropped to 250 LP, so I could win with a Scrap Chimera. I forgot what exactly happened in the second duel, but I lost the third duel to Royal Oppression and multiple Doomcaliber Knights and Rai-Ohs.

Round 4: vs X-Sabers - OXX
-In the first duel, I Scrap Dragon'd him. In the second duel, he went Cold Wave, Boggart Knight, Emmesblade, double Faultroll. I couldn't draw anything in the third duel, and he swarmed me again.

With that, I dropped. But, I joined a Win-a-Box tournament.

Round 1: vs Zombies - XOO
-I really liked this guy's Zombie deck, and we discussed it after the match. The only problem I have with Zombies right now is that they're too slow. Anyway, I got killed by Brionac in the first duel, I killed him with a Scrap Dragon in the second duel, and I controlled him with Scrap Dragon and Solemn Warning in the third duel.

Round 2: vs Chaos Blackwings - OO
-I was up against Riku. My one mained Effect Veiler saved me in the first duel, and I won the second duel in a top-decking war.

Round 3: vs Debris Lightsworn - XX
-In both duels, he opened with two Solar Recharges. He pulled out Shooting Star Dragon and revealed three Tuners to kill me in the first duel. In the second duel, I lost four cards to a Cold Wave/Debris Dragon into Black Rose Dragon play, but Judgment Dragon was what killed me.

So, dueling didn't go that well today, but I did get a bunch of good trades. I got a Scrap Dragon, Catastor, Blackwing Armor Master, three Genex Ally Duradark (kill those Shi'ens!), and Scrap Mind Reader. There were numerous non-holo cards that I got, too.

I also got to take some videos with my friends. Some of them are going to me on my channel, while others should be going up on vadangchoinga's channel.

So yeah, it was pretty fun today, even though I scrubbed out of the tournament.

Hopes for the March 2011 Ban List

Please note that these are my hopes for the ban list, as opposed to predictions or ideal scenarios.

  • Cold Wave to 0 - Given.
  • Mind Control to 0 - This is worse than Brain Control, to an extent. No one Tribute Summons anymore, and this hits face-downs, making it immune to Book of Moon.
  • Mind Master to 0 - It facilitates FTK's.
  • Heavy Storm to 1 - I liked the game better when it wasn't back row-wars.
  • Mystical Space Typhoon to 1 - This goes hand in hand with Heavy Storm.
  • Judgment Dragon to 1 - This should've happened forever ago.
  • Gateway of the Six to 1 - Same as Judgment Dragon, but now it's seriously affecting the meta.
  • XX-Saber Faultroll to 1 - The real problem behind X-Saber swarms.
  • Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North to 1 - One-card Brionac for a deck that's already sacky? No thanks.
  • Dandylion to 1 - The tokens are generated far too easily by recurring this card multiple times for free.
  • Solemn Warning to 1 - I like being able to summon my Monsters.
  • Treeborn Frog to 1 - Kind of the same idea as Dandylion. It mitigates the cost of Tribute and Synchro Summoning too well.
  • Fishborg Blaster to 1 - This hurts Fish OTK.
  • Royal Tribute to 1 - Gravekeeper's don't deserve a super Crush Card Virus.
  • Necro Gardna to 2 - This is my only selfish hope for the ban list.
  • Gold Sarcophagus to 3 - Same as six months ago. It could help my Cyber Ouroboros draw engine, but I won't care either way.

Yeah, it's not in order because I just wrote it up as I thought of the cards, for the most part. There's actually a lot more that I want than last year. I guess it's because there are so many more good decks nowadays.

Random Stuff #24

There will not be videos this week, because Aki was busy and stuff. I may have the time to post some sort of deck profile or some such thing, but it's doubtful.

Apparently YCS Anaheim is scheduled for April 9-10. That's cool, since I should be able to go. Good thing it's after the ban list. That'll certainly make it interesting.

There are actually quite a few big events coming up. This Saturday is a Regional, then the Storm of Ragnarok Sneak Preview. The weekend after that is a 1K tournament, and after that is another Wii/Xbox 360 tournament. I'm happy about the Regional, but February is going to be filled with Six Samurai craziness.

Hopefully, the ban list will deal with Six Samurai, not to mention the other problems with the format. I'll probably post a hopes for the ban list thing again.

Side Decking is quite difficult when so many decks are viable, especially when I'm playing a fragile deck like Scraps. Unless I draw awesomely and/or side in like ten cards, it's hard to beat bad match-ups.

It's hard to switch to a new deck, though. My Scrap build is exactly what I would want in a deck. A controlling deck that has the ability to make a huge reversal with just one card (Scrap Chimera) if need be. It's kind of like how Monarchs were for me, before Necro Gardna got messed up by Lightsworn. I also liked Vayu Turbo, but it's dead this format because of Stun, specifically Gravekeeper's.

So yeah, my Necro Monarchy, Vayu Turbo, and Scrap decks were the only decks I really liked. That's kinda sad. I'm sure that I would like X-Sabers, if I had the money to buy Emmersblades...
